The International Relations Office Launches the Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) ‘Sustainability Challenge’ at the University of Economics – Varna

On March 16, the International Relations Office officially marked the beginning of the first Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) for the academic year 2025/2026 at the University of Economics – Varna. The programme, titled Sustainability Challenge, focuses on sustainable development and encourages participants to explore innovative solutions to today’s global challenges.

The programme runs over the course of one week and brings together 25 students and 5 academic representatives from five countries: Bulgaria, Germany, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, and the Netherlands. Through collaborative work, interactive sessions, and guest-lectures, the participants will have the opportunity to enhance their knowledge, develop intercultural competencies, and strengthen their critical thinking skills.

The event was officially opened by Assoc. Prof. Radan Miryanov, PhD - the Vice-Rector for International Relations and Partnerships, Assoc. Prof. Vladimir Zhechev, PhD – Institutional Erasmus+ Coordinator and Chief Assist. Prof. Petar Petrov, PhD who warmly welcomed the participants and emphasized the importance of international cooperation and academic exchange in building a more sustainable future.

The first day concluded with a vibrant International Dinner, where students brought and presented traditional food from their home countries and shared stories highlighting their cultural and culinary traditions. In addition, participants had the opportunity to taste a variety of traditional Bulgarian specialties.

The highlight of the evening was a captivating folklore performance by the “Bulgarka” Ensemble, which created an authentic atmosphere and gave participants a closer insight into the richness of Bulgarian folk music and dance. The event concluded with a traditional Bulgarian Pravo Horo, in which the students enthusiastically joined.

The programme continues with a series of lectures, practical workshops, and team-based projects aimed at developing sustainable solutions with real-world impact.
